About Us
Anderson Pipe Organs was founded by Josh Anderson in 2022 with the aim of providing high-quality pipe organ services throughout New Zealand.
Josh showed an interest in playing the pipe organ from an early age, starting lessons when he was eight years old. His journey into organ building commenced in 2010 when he started a four-year apprenticeship with the South Island Organ Company in Timaru.
After his apprenticeship, Josh relocated to the United Kingdom where he worked with several major organ builders, including Kenneth Tickell & Company and Mander Organs Ltd. This allowed him to work on a wide variety of instruments and different styles of work, including several new mechanical action instruments.
Alongside his work as an organ builder, Josh was Organ Scholar at St Matthew’s in Northampton and St Michael & All Angels in Croydon, UK. These positions allowed him to expand his understanding of the Church’s liturgy and music, and how an organ fits in with the demands of these two important facets of Church life.
Josh has been involved in the installation and ongoing maintenance of many pipe organs. These include the large four-manual organs in St John’s College Chapel in Cambridge UK, Rochester and Manchester Cathedrals in the UK, Urawa Akenohoshi Girls’ School in Japan, and many Town Hall, Cathedral and Parish instruments around NZ.
At Mander Organs Ltd, Josh held the role of Designer, being responsible for the technical design of new or rebuilt instruments. A significant project was the major rebuilding of the 1953 J.W. Walker instrument in Waltham Abbey, Essex, completed in 2019.
During the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Josh worked as a freelance organ-builder and draughtsman. He carried out work for companies such as Harrison & Harrison of Durham and Nicholson & Co of Malvern. He was heavily involved in the technical design of the rebuilt organ in Wimborne Minster by Mander Organ Builders in 2021 before moving back to New Zealand.

Tuning and Maintenance
We have experience in tuning instruments of all sizes and in many different venues ranging from Cathedrals and Town Halls to the smallest of Churches or Chapels. We offer this service throughout New Zealand.
Refurbishment
Anderson Pipe Organs offers an overhaul service which is suited to the needs of an individual client and their instrument, whether it be overhauling the entire instrument or just targeting individual components as resources allow. Our aim is to keep an instrument functioning to its full potential. We are happy to inspect an instrument and provide a report with our recommendations.
Pipe Organ Design
We offer a comprehensive design and technical drawing service to clients ranging from the initial concept stage for a potential project, right through to full technical drawings for a new instrument. Josh’s experience as an organist allows him to produce specifications for instruments which will be ideally suited to the building and the job the organ is put to. We have experience in designing instruments in a range of sizes and will happily work with clients both locally and abroad.
